About
One house in Newbridge, looked after by its owners
The Bath Stay is a single home in Bath’s riverside quarter. The people who own it are the people who clean it, stock it and answer your messages.

Everyone who comes to Bath is sold the same picture: a Georgian terrace, a sash window, a wrought-iron balcony. This house is down by the river instead, and that is the point of it.
The crescents are magnificent and you should absolutely go and look at them. But they were built to be looked at. This house was built to be lived in, with rooms in sensible proportions, light that moves right through the middle of it during the day, a garden you can sit in without an audience, and heating that actually works.
Newbridge suits it. It is a real neighbourhood on the western edge of the city, with a bakery worth walking to and a canal at the end of the road. From the front door it is thirty-five flat minutes into the centre along the towpath, and you can park outside for nothing, which in Bath still feels like a small conspiracy.
The house is set up the way we would want to find it ourselves. That mostly means resisting the urge to be clever: good bedding rather than a lot of cushions, pans you can actually cook in, full-size toiletries rather than miniatures nobody wants, and no instruction card telling you to enjoy your stay.
It is looked after by people who live locally, and when you message, one of us replies. If you need something during your stay, or if something is not right, tell us and we will sort it out.

How the house is cleaned and checked between stays
Most places keep this private. We would rather write it down, because it is the part you cannot see in a photograph and it is the part that decides whether a stay is any good.
- Changeover
- Every stay ends at 11:00am and the next begins at 3:00pm. Those hours are not padding. They are how long it takes to do the house well, and we would rather turn a booking down than rush them.
- Linen
- All bedding and towels are changed between every stay, without exception, whether or not they look used. 400-thread-count cotton on the beds, Egyptian cotton in the bathroom. Throws are laundered on rotation.
- Bathroom
- Faith in Nature Aloe Vera shampoo and conditioner and Coconut body wash, topped up or replaced each time. Vegan and cruelty-free. Fresh hand soap, and a spare toilet roll where you can find it.
- Kitchen
- Olive oil, salt, pepper, herbs and seasonings are restocked between stays, along with tea, coffee and Nespresso pods. Fresh milk and butter go in the fridge on the morning you arrive, not the week before.
- Cleaning
- The whole house, every time: floors, bathroom, kitchen surfaces, the inside of the oven and the fridge, and the things people forget: light switches, handles, remote controls and the kettle.
- Checks
- The appliances, the heating, the smoke alarms and the Wi-Fi are all run through before each arrival. Anything that has gone wrong is fixed before you get here, not logged for later.
- If something is wrong
- Message us. We are local, and we would far rather hear about it on the first evening than read about it in a review a fortnight later.
Before you book
We have also written down what might not suit you
The walk, the on-street parking, the four-guest limit and the decorative wood burner are all on the main page. It is a short list, and better read before you book than after you arrive.
